My Training Diary - June 2004

25th June

Swim.    Distance - 900m     Time - 15.38mins

I did 250m in 4:09 and then did 10 sets of 50m sprints which nearly killed me!!
Then an old lady stinking of perfume got in next to me. Why do people feel they have to put perfume on before going swimming? It drives me mad! There is nothing worse then struggling for breath to be hit by a lung full of cheap rancid perfume. Yuuuuk!

21st June

Turbo Trainer.    Distance - miles/Km     Time - 33.00mins

I did a 5min warm-up and then a good 28 min session. Great way to start the day.
Ave HR - 130.
Max HR - 162.

19th June

Turbo Trainer.    Distance - miles/Km     Time - 30.00mins

The idea of today was to do a 30min bike session followed by a quick 1 mile run. My mate, Tony is a personal fitness trainer and he told me to do some shorter distances at a much faster rate.
I did 5min warm-up on the bike then 25mins.
Transition time of 0:37secs to change into my trainers.

Run.    Distance - 1 mile/Km     Time - 08.06mins!!

I did a 1 mile run up to Wayside Cottage and back. The return leg was hard work and I knew I was close to 8mins so I really pushed the last bit down into Post Office Lane.
I am over the moon to have done an 8 minute mile!! And that's after a 30 min bike session.

14th June

Swim.    Distance - 750m     Time - 15.01mins

I did 3 sessions of 250m. My 1st proper swim session for a while and it was hard work.

12th June

Run.    Distance - Km/miles     Time - 22.40mins

My first run for a while now. With just over 1 month before the race it's time to do a burst of training before the final week. I ran into Backwell as far as the Eylers bench. Got there in 11mins.
Ave HR - 161.
Max HR - 183.

6th June

Swim.    Distance - m     Time - 7:00mins

Mike managed to convince me to do it again and I did, this time slightly faster. I still felt nervous but pleased to do it in 5 mins.

5th June

Swim.    Distance - m     Time - 7:00mins

Whilst on holiday in Portugal I was convinced by Mike Dash that I could swim out to a yellow buoy in the distance. On the coast of the Algarve that Atlantic Ocean is blooming freezing!! I reached the buoy, but it was very cold and a bit scary swimming out to sea towards the buoy in the distance. I couldn't stop thinking about sharks!!
It felt very good to reach the beach again and I was pleased to have made it. From the time it was no where near as far as it looked.
