My Cardiff Half Marathon Training Diary - June - October 2009

WEEK 3

Tuesday 16th June

Distance - 2.0 miles    Time - 19.47mins

I think I might have pushed just a bit too hard this morning. I decided to try and do 1 mile in under 10 mins. Can't remember the last time I managed that!

I did the 1st mile in 9:49 mins!!! I was amazed and pleased but was worried my HR might shoot up. The return leg was agony with my breathing really shallow and gasping. Not a nice feeling but was equally amazed that I managed 9:58 mins for the last mile.

I realise from this that I still have a long way to go (No pun intended!) but I was pleased to break the 10 min barrier after just 2 weeks of training.

Thursday 18th June

Distance - 2.0 miles    Time - 22.51mins

A very gentle 2 miles today. Walked miles round Alton Towers yesterday and my legs felt really heavy today. Plus after 6 rides on Oblivion and 5 rides on Nemesis my body has been battered and bruised so the last thing it wanted was a pavement pounding session today!!

I took it very slowly and the last mile felt terrible. The front of my shins are now agaont - shin splints I think! Cardiff still feels a huge task but we will persevere!

Sunday 21st June

Distance - 3.0 miles    Time - 33.36mins

I was really pleased with the run today. I met a lady who does Ironman triathlons last night and she has inspired me. I wasn't sure about doing 3 miles after my sore shins but went for it.

I decided on a new course just for a change so ran along the cycle path and then into Nailsea on the back roads. It was hard work but I felt quite good on the return leg home.
