My Cardiff Half Marathon Training Diary - June - October 2009

WEEK 2

Monday 8th June

Distance - 2.0miles    Time - 22.19mins

Having run yesterday I just wanted to do a gentle session today at a slower pace. I'm away on business on Weds and Thurs and therefore I can't run on Thurs so decided to switch days around.

The Forerunner 305 allows you to choose a course to train on. I saved my Flax Bourton 2 mile course but the watch couldn't find the start of the course! One of the downsides of using GPS is it never thinks you're exactly where you are! So I gave up trying after 5mins of wandering around the top of the lane and just ran the same course but without setting the watch to that saved course! If you know the Forerunner 305 that will make sense but I know it probably sounds like gibberish to anyone else!

My achilles on both legs were feeling a bit tender today. Be nice to have a rest day tomorrow.

Wednesday 10th June

Distance - 2.0 miles    Time - 20.51mins

Felt great after a day's rest. Went off a bit fast but I was slightly rushing as I'm off to London on business for 2 days.

Really pleased with the times of each mile.

Saturday 13th June

Distance - 3.0 miles    Time - 33.47mins

I decided that the long weekend run each week should be 3 miles for the next few weeks. Whilst I am following a training plan from Real Runner I know there's no way I'm fit enough to be increasing to 4 and 5 mile runs in next couple of weeks. So June is going to be focused on building up my fitness and I'll increase from July.

I'm so pleased to have done 3 miles. It doesn't sound far, but it was such hard work! The 2nd mile was the worst and in fact I felt quite good on final mile.
