My Cardiff Half Marathon Training Diary - June - October 2009

WEEK 18

29th September

Distance - 4.0 miles    Time - 38.21mins

This was a really good run. I felt good as I began so I decided to go for it and see if I could do all 4 miles at under 10min mile pace.

Mission accomplished!

You'll see another minute added on at the end. That was me not remembering to reset the watch when I began Thursday's run!

1st October

Distance - 7.0 miles    Time - 1hr:15.55mins

I decided I needed a new route so this time I just ran along the A370 into Backwell and out into Cleeve and I got as far as the speed camera where I turned round and headed back home.

There were some steep parts to this run and it was a little bit windy but I was pleased as I felt quite good through out. Even my shins seem to have settled down since Tuesday.

4th October

Distance - 11.0 miles!!!    Time - 2hrs:01.18mins

This was supposed to be a 9 mile run but I planned a new route just before setting off. It was a nice loop of just under 9 miles up into Nailsea and back round into Chelvey and back along A370 to home. But I got lost on the Queens Road and missed the "The Perrings" turning so ended up going out onto West End Lane!!

I was feeling really good so wasn't too concerned and once I knew where I was I realised the route would be about 10.25 miles so decided I would try to make it 11. This would be a huge psychological advantage to me with the Cardiff Half Marathon only 2 weeks away.

I felt really comfortable at the 5 mile mark and really enjoyed the run, but I'm aching now. No damage done at all, but I can feel the aches and pains arriving already. I'll do a gentle recovery run either tomorrow or Tuesday depending how I'm feeling and I think I'll just taper things down from here.
